Welcome to the annual Autumn Symposium of the Finnish Association for Applied Linguistics (AFinLA), to be held in Joensuu, Finland, on 9-10 November 2018. The theme of the symposium is “Keeping languages alive”. Through this theme, we wish to encourage discussions on the vitality of languages and the measures taken to support small languages from a variety of perspectives. The symposium opens new windows into multilingualism in Finland and the linguistic wellbeing of Finns speaking diverse languages. We also welcome presentations in all other areas of applied linguistics.

Proposals for presentations, posters and workshops must be submitted by 31 August 2018. Acceptance will be announced by 1 October 2018. The final deadline for registration and payment of the symposium fees is 12 October 2018.
